Question 1

Can engineered hardwood be refinished?

Accepted Answer

Quality engineered hardwood can be refinished and can have as much wood on top (water layer or veneer) as solid (real) hardwood.

Question 2

Why should I finish my hardwood floors?

Accepted Answer

There are many reasons why hardwood floors are refinished. Most of the refinishing projects we’ve done in Denver are due to damage to older finishes, water damage, outdated color, and the need for more hardwood flooring within the home. With today’s technology, your contractor should be able to offer at least 5 different finishes and explain what each does to select the right finish for your lifestyle. Not all finishes are created equal; some will last barely 3-4 years, and others can last as long as 15 years.

Question 3

Why is the finish so important for hardwood floors?

Accepted Answer

The finish is as important as the engineered hardwood construction. The finish is the first defense against damages and wear and tear. Quality oil finishes can be easier to repair and maintain than cheap or low-cost lacquer or polyurethane finishes. Selecting an engineered hardwood with a quality finish is an important step to receiving a long-term hardwood product.

Question 4

What types of hardwood finishes do you offer?

Accepted Answer

There are more finishes available now than ever before! Besides the popular water-based finish, our most popular finish is European penetrating oil or hard wax oil finish. As a trusted Denver hardwood specialist, we have been using these finishes for the past eight years and have seen the same or better results than the traditional water-based finishes. Once applied, our preferred European oil finish can be maintained without the need to refinish your floors again.

Question 5

How is cost determined for engineered hardwood planks?

Accepted Answer

Pricing is determined based on hardwood width, thickness, wear layer, and type of finish, grade etc. The wider and cleaner the grade of the engineered hardwood, the more it affects the overall cost.
